Write to your newspaper
Legislators do read the newspapers and the Letters to the Editor section is a great place to educate them about the need for comprehensive immigration reform. Just keep your letter short (some papers have limits of 200 words) and clear and try to peg it to something happening in the news, it’ll have more chance to be picked.
Here’s how to do it:
1. Find the Letters to the Editor mailing address or email for your local newspaper. Here are a few of them for the main Texas newspaper -The Dallas Morning News; The San Antonio Express News; The Houston Chronicle; El Paso Times; Austin American Statesman; The Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
2. Indicate that you are writing about a recent article and don’t forget to put down what the headline was, who wrote the piece and what date it was published.
3. At the end of your letter, don’t forget to write your name, address and daytime phone number.
