We Can’t Wait
WHY NOW? Every day without immigration reform costs us all
The promising strides toward immigration reform in 2006 and 2007 came to an abrupt stop as legislation reached a dead end in Congress and the public’s attention turned to other matters. Now, hundreds of pro-immigrant advocates and community members from around the country are working to renew the dormant movement and Washington officials are listening.
We stand at a historical crossroads. Business as usual is no longer viable. Our broken immigration system is draining our pocketbooks, undermining our security and destroying families. Now, we have the opportunity to choose a new, practical and just policy, one that will create a path to citizenship for deserving undocumented immigrants; one that will separate immigration enforcement from criminal enforcement; one that will establish a sensible and accountable border policy; one that will create a workable system for future workers; one that will respect human rights and one that will keep families together.
The benefits of acting now are many; the consequences of delaying are dire.
If we delay…
• We hurt our economy
• We hurt our security
• We hurt the border
• We hurt families
If we don’t act now, we may lose the political capital needed to pass a comprehensive immigration reform that is fair and practical. Inaction would be bad for the economy, bad for people, and bad for America.
Reform Cannot Wait!
